Sono stato nello studio di Giovanni Vitali in via Padova. Ha fatto questa nuova serie di quadri dedicati alla crisi dell’euro. Rispetto al lavoro presentato due anni fa a Giorni Felici qui c’è uno sforzo di semplificare la sua esuberanza pop. Le idee più precise (e quindi più semplici) si portano dietro uno stile più asciutto e ordinato e quindi più efficace.
È un lavoro molto concettuale e narrativo svolto con una felicità compositiva che lo rende comprensibile anche senza troppe spiegazioni.
Nel quadro centrale con la madonna-euro, la vena pop si sposa con riferimenti colti. Così l’Immacolata concezione, con la corona di dodici stelle e il volto della moneta unita, anziché schiacciare la testa del serpente si trova avvinghiata da Sir Biss, lo stralunato rettile del disneyano Robin Hood. Alle sue spalle una parete di rose colorate.
Divertente, e non scontato, anche l’accostamento Sarkozy-Lupin III e Merkel- Maga Magò.

I quadri saranno esposti alla Ars Now Seragiotto di Padova dal 29 marzo.

I visited Giovanni Vitali’s studio in Via Padova. He made this new series of paintings dedicated to the euro crisis. Compared to work presented two years ago in Giorni Felici a Casa Testori, here there is an effort to simplify his exuberant “popism”. The ideas more precise (and therefore simpler) and they bring with them a more dry and tidy style, and therefore more effective.

The work is very conceptual and narrative played with a happy composition that makes it understandable without too much explanation.
In the center canvas with the Euro-Madonna, the pop vein is combined with cultural references. So the Immaculate Conception, with a crown of twelve stars and the face of currency units, instead of crushing the serpent’s head is wrapped around by Sir Hiss, the wild-eyed reptile of Disney’s Robin Hood. Behind her a wall of colored roses.
Funny, and not obvious, even the combination Sarkozy-Lupin the 3rd and Merkel-Mad Madam Mim.

The paintings will be exhibited at Ars Now Seragiotto in Padua from March 29.
