Cari amici di NONAME eccoci con la quarta edizione del prestigiosissimo Flower Prize. So che molti di voi non stavano nella pelle e hanno perso ore di sonno per sapere chi si contenderà il premio di quest’anno. Eccovi accontentati. Dopo le straordinarie edizioni degli anni scorsi vinte da Marc Quinn, Julia Krahn e Urs Fischer, anche per il 2012 il Flower Prize sarà l’occasione per un accesissimo dibattito.

Ripetiamo le regole: entrano nella short list singole opere realizzate nell’anno in corso e viste di persona dal titolare di NONAME e il vincitore è decretato insidacabilmente dal titolare di NONAME

Sono vincoli strettissimi e se ne sono accorti artisti del calibro di David Hockney e Wolfgang Tillmans che, nonostante abbiano realizzato mostre indimenticabili, hanno esposto opere realizzate negli anni scorsi. NONAME ha ricevuto il loro ricorso ma lo ha respinto, perché le regole sono le regole (chiedete a Renzi come funzionano queste cose).

Il vincitore sarà proclamato il 22 dicembre (sempre che il giorno prima non finisca il mondo).

Come vi accorgerete il mood del premio di quest’anno è in linea con le parole chiave di questo 2012 che va a concludersi: rigore e austerità.

Dear NONAME’s friends, here we are with the 4h edition of the prestigious Flower Prize. I know that many of you were jumping out of their skins, and have lost tons of sleeping hours waiting to know who the nominees are. Here you are. After the extraordinary editions of recent years won by Marc Quinn, Julia Krahn and Urs Fischer, for 2012 the Flower Prize will be an opportunity for a heated debate.

We repeat the rules: Only works made in the current year and that the owner of this blog has seen live can enter the short list.

Constraints are tight, we know, and it has been noticed by artists such as David Hockney and Wolfgang Tillmans who, although they have made unforgettable exhibitions, have exposed works created in recent years and not in 2012. NONAME received their appeal but rejected it, because rules are rules.

The winner will be announced Dec. 22 (assuming that the day before the world wouldn’t end up).

As you will notice the mood of this year’s award is in line with the keywords of this going to end 2012: rigor and austerity.

MADAME FISSCHER, UNA MOSTRA BEN PETTINATA

NO NAME non poteva esimersi dal rendere omaggio al Flower Prize 2011 Urs Fischer e fare un salto a Palazzo Grassi per vedere la sua Madam Fisscher. La mostra è pulita, educata, a tratti rassicurante. Una macchina rodata e ben oliata in cui la forza delle opere dell’artista viene normalizzata. Il potenziale di provocazione non riesce a deflagrare. Tutto sembra ormai così ordinario. Una bella differenza rispetto al colpo che dà invece l’opera Hole del 2007 e che in mostra di Venezia (per ovvi motivi?) non c’era. La modella nuda, presente per tutto il tempo della mostra, è una soluzione un po’ troppo comoda. Mi sarebbe piaciuto un bel buco nel palazzo ristrutturato da Tadao Ando. Monsieur Pinault se lo poteva permettere e, forse, avremmo visto non solo l’abisso senza fondo del suo salvadanaio, ma anche quello presente dentro di noi.

Eppure Urs Fischer resta un grande artista. E si vede anche questa volta. Lo si vede in un paio di punti in modo inequivocabile. Ma in punti un po’ nascosti, in opere secondarie. La più bella e struggente è questa qui sotto: The Grass Munchers, 2007. Una deposizione. I corpi scompaiono, resta solo l’atto. La presa. Un paio di braccia esanimi sostenute da tre mani di tre persone diverse. Un fragmento di scena che evoca quel momento sacro in cui qualcuno è chiamato a sostenere il corpo di qualcun altro. Un gesto corale, silenzioso. Commosso. Urs Fischer tocca con quest’opera il punto su cui poggia tutta la grande arte. Forse ancor di più che nell’opera esposta alla Biennale a cui, non ce ne siamo ancora pentiti, abbiamo assegnato il prestigiosissimo Flower Prize 2o11.

Il vincitore del “Flower Prize 2011” è Urs Fischer con l’opera “Untitled”.
Motivazione della giuria:

«Exegi monumentum aere perennius». Ho eretto un monumento più duraturo del bronzo (Orazio). Urs Fischer qui fa l’esatto contrario : realizza un monumento destinato a scomparire e non lasciare traccia. A sciogliersi non è solo l’arte del Giambologna, ma con lei si dissolve anche lo spettatore. Forse è l’attestazione di una resa, la pretesa che l’arte non sia più in grado di gettare un ponte al di là della morte e, forse, neppure oltre l’istante. La tirannia del tempo sembra avere la meglio e l’arte, così come l’uomo, si liquefà tornando allo stato di massa informe. «Cenere eri e cenere ritornerai». Un memento mori per l’uomo e per l’artista. Se neanche l’arte dura, che cosa dura veramente? Urs Fischer ci lascia con l’inquietudine di chi sa che i conti non tornano. Eppure davanti a quella colata a noi rimane come una certezza : quell’immagine si fisserà dentro di noi in modo indelebile. Per sempre.

Venerdì 16 dicembre alle 16.00 al Bar Genzana di Via San Gottardo a Lugano ci sarà la consegna del premio (un assegno di 13,5 Franchi svizzeri).

Jury motivation:

«Exegi monumentum aere perennius». I erected a monument more lasting than bronze (Horace). Urs Fischer here is the exact opposite: it creates a monument destined to disappear and leave no trace. Giambologna’s art melts and the viewer dissolves. Perhaps it is the declaration of surrender, the claim that art is no longer able to build a bridge beyond death, and perhaps even beyond the moment. The tyranny of time seems to win and the art, just as man, melts back to the state of mass. “You were ashes and ashes you shall return”. A memento mori for the man and the artist. Even if the art doesn’t last, what will really last? Urs Fischer leaves us with the anxiety of knowing that does not add up. Yet we remain ahead of the casting with a certainty that image becomes fixed within us indelibly. Forever.

Eccoci qui con la terza edizione del prestigiosissimo Flower Prize. Nelle scorse settimane in molti hanno tradito impazienza nell’attesa della pubblicazione della lista dei finalisti di quest’anno. Dopo le prime due fortunate edizioni, vinte da Marc Quinn e Julia Krahn, il mondo dell’arte contemporanea vede nel Flower Price un indiscusso punto di riferimento per capire da che parte sta andando l’arte di oggi.

L’edizione di quest’anno alla formula ormai collaudata (entrano nella short list singole opere realizzate nell’anno in corso e viste di persona dal titolare di NONAME e il vincitore è decretato insidacabilmente dal titolare di NONAME) aggiunge novità eletrizzanti. La prima è che i lettori potranno tentare di condizionare la scelta del vincitore commentando questo post cercando di motivare la loro scelta. È una sorta di televoto in stile reality show, con la differenza che il parere del pubblico è squisitamente consultivo e non vincolante per la giuria di qualità. La seconda e più importante novità è che il parere della giuria potrà essere condizionato anche da tentativi di corruzione da parte degli artisti che potranno contattare il titolare del blog per tentare comprare la sua corruttibilità. In questo senso, a dispetto del nome del premio, il motto sarà: niente fiori ma opere di qualità.

Il vincitore sarà proclamato il 5 dicembre.

Readers can groped to condition the choice of the winner commenting on this post trying to justify their choice. It is the sort of remote voting, which is used in reality shows, with the differencethat public opinion is purely advisory and not binding on the jury. The opinion of the jury may also be influenced by bribes by the artists who will contact the owner of the blog trying to buy his corruptibility.
